Redistricting
As if there aren’t enough reasons to visit Fort Worth’s Cultural District, a slew of performance arts groups will be taking over the area’s museums and vying for your attention in Day in the District, a daylong celebration of the local fine arts scene.
The Kimbell hosts an instrument demonstration by the baroque music ensemble Texas Camerata, a puppet show by Hip Pocket Theater, and dramatic readings of Pablo Neruda’s poetry by Amphibian Productions. The Modern lends its space to site-specific dance by Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth (no surprise, since the troupe has played that venue before) and a concert by Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Classical Guitar Society and the Texas Boys Choir both take up temporary residence at the Amon Carter. The National Cowgirl Museum features Western swing music by Cowtown Opry and barbershop-style singing by Lone Star Chorus. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History holds a performance by Mondo Drummers. Fort Worth Community Arts Center spotlights performances by Kids Who Care and a series of video presentations by conductor James Conlon and the six pianists who made it to the finals of the last Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. If all this isn’t enough, the museums will be offering reduced-price or free admission. For newcomers to Fort Worth, this afternoon is a perfect opportunity to sample the culture this city affords.
