Romancing the Met

Metropolitan Classical Ballet (formerly Ballet Arlington) is the first dance company out of the starting blocks this season, offering a program of three revivals Saturday at Bass Performance Hall.
Two of the ballets, Casanova Fantasy and Pas de Quatre, have been previously seen in Arlington but not in Fort Worth. Cowgirls Live Forever, which closes the evening, was presented by Texas Ballet Theater in 1994 under the title All The Right Women when Paul Mejia was artistic director there. He now co-directs MCB.
Mejia originally set his country romp to popular western tunes sung live by the then-unknown Dixie Chicks. This time, he’s using the Johnnie High Band, featuring young vocalist Elizabeth Blum.
Casanova Fantasy, choreographed by Michail Lavrovsky in 1993, explores the amorous adventures of the famous lover, set to Mozart’s music. It was originally created for MCB’s other artistic director, Alexander Vetrov, then a principal with the Bolshoi Ballet. He won’t be dancing the role here, however. He’ll leave that to protégé Andre Prikhodko, one of MCB’s leading dancers.
For ballet lovers, Pas de Quatre is familiar territory. A re-choreographing of Jules Perrot’s original 1845 tour de force, Anton Dolin’s homage to four 19th-century ballerinas has remained a favorite since first presented by American Ballet Theater back in 1941. The four roles will be danced by Olga Pavlova, Marina Goshko, Maria Kudyakova, and Sarah Marr.
The Texas Chamber Orchestra, under Ron Spigelman’s direction, will accompany Casanova Fantasy and Pas de Quatre.
