Depth Perception

To the editor: While Fort Worth Weekly has been a great source of entertainment for us, we do recognize that your opinion writers can be “brutally honest” at times. However, in regards to the article on Finn MacCool’s Pub (March 2, 2005), it certainly would have been nice if Last Call had included the honesty part along with the brutality. Even if it is an opinion column, when the Weekly actually pays someone to print such inaccurate descriptions, it does make you wonder about the truthfulness of other articles. (It might also help if the writer knew a little geography. Last time we checked, Ireland was in Western Europe, not Eastern.)
After reading Last Call’s description of Finn MacCool’s, we seriously doubt that the writer even visited our establishment. For example, he or she seemed enamored of the “wood paneling” that made us so much like over pub venues. We did a full-scale inventory, and sure enough, we don’t have one stitch of wood paneling in the place. If Last Call wanted to criticize our miles of beautifully exposed brick walls, wonderfully restored 12-foot-high original tin ceilings, rows of drop-down schoolhouse lights, and great views of 8th and Allen through our gorgeous picture windows, at least his opinion would be (slightly) more credible. At least the article provided us with some laughs.
Also, while our patrons certainly don’t feel that we are in this category, we do applaud the Weekly for exposing places where service actually does suck. Although, to be brutally honest, most of us know where the service sucks long before Last Call ever gets around to his pious comments on it. And speaking of sucking — going through an obnoxious 6-inch cigar in 10 minutes! We suspect that this comment indicates a more general truth about Last Call: When he says he has six inches, there’s really only three.
