Regular or Decapitated?

Elsewhere on the South Side, the Coffee House Gallery is now putting on murder mystery dinners — you know, those “interactive” performance art pieces that require patrons to stay in character (and costume) while improvising an entire whodunit along with a few dozen other perfect strangers. If your love of CSI, Without a Trace, and all of those other gruesome tv shows impels you to go, your best approach (other than renting The Silence of the Lambs for the 90th time) is to lasso a few friends into joining you, mainly to a) have a buffer between you and all those weirdo strangers and b) help you commiserate over the big-boned bill. “The $50 per person pays for the food, not the entertainment,” said owner Rebecca Cornelius. “Seriously, take your date out for a five-course meal and the theater for a show afterwards. See if you don’t spend twice the amount.”

More information: The next production is Saturday, May 14. The theme is “murder under the stars” (a.k.a. “prom night”). “I have 16 booked so far, and I’m willing to book 10 more,” Cornelius said. “There’s a level where you don’t want it to get too big.”
