Late to Bed
The Pantagleize Theatre Co. isn’t dead, you’ll be glad to know. It has merely been napping. The company was founded here two years ago (an event we took note of — see “Pajamas and Pantagleize,” March 10, 2004) and was supposed to begin its second season in March 2005. However, its scheduled initial production that year was first put off for a month and then delayed indefinitely due to lease issues with its venue (a former carpet warehouse on the East Side of Fort Worth) and the untimely passing of Roy O’Valle, the troupe’s production designer and the husband of artistic director Violet O’Valle.
Now at last Pantagleize is back on the boards with Jan de Hartog’s The Fourposter, the play that was supposed to kick off the troupe’s season 13 months ago. It’s an English translation of a Dutch play that depicts scenes from a couple’s marriage through the decades, all taking place around their four-poster bed. (The same play inspired the Broadway musical I Do! I Do!) The company’s mission is to provide a more continental note to Fort Worth’s theater scene. After a long hiatus, they are ready to take it up again.
The Fourposter runs May 5-14 at 1020 S Handley Dr, FW. Tickets are $6-10.
