Short Takes & Remakes
SceneShop is participating in the Out of the Loop Festival in Addison next week, but you don’t have to drive all the way there to catch their act. They’ll be performing the same three one-act plays for local audiences as they will out there. The headlining piece is the world premiere of The Interrogation of Vince Banyon, a playlet about two detectives questioning a charismatic drifter. It’s by Grayson Harper, who’s better known locally as a painter but is extending his work onto the stage. Also performing here as a warm-up to Out of the Loop are Andy and Joleen Mullins, who call themselves Takin’ a Break From Sex and will perform a series of comic vignettes about marriage. As a bonus, Fort Worthers will also get to see SceneShop putting on Steven McGaw’s lived in… and Edward Crosby Wells’ Civil Unionized.
If you’d prefer your theater a bit wackier or in a somewhat longer form, TCU is putting on Scapino!, a 1974 adaptation of Moličre’s Les Fourberies de Scapin by the comedy duo of Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale. This story of a servant who’s smarter than everyone around him was a big hit in its time when Dunlop and Dale acted in the main roles. UTA put on this same play last October; let’s see how well TCU’s production stands up to it.
SceneShop is at 8pm Sat at Arts Fifth Avenue, 1628 5th Av, FW. Tickets are $12. Call 817-923-9500.
Scapino! runs thru Sun at TCU, Buschman Theatre, 2800 S University Dr, FW. Tickets are $10. Call 817-257-5770.
