Get Out!

This spring has been rainy so far. (Quit complaining! Tarrant County is no longer suffering a drought!) But Mother Nature permitting, we’ll all be able to enjoy the outdoor events scheduled for this weekend.

First, to blow our own horn for a bit, Fort Worth Weekly has pretty much taken over Mayfest. The 35th annual installment of this rite of spring includes live music by the likes of Brave Combo, Deep Blue Something, and The Feds, plus Black Tie Dynasty, 1100 Springs, Green River Ordinance, Cadillac Sky, The Killdares, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, and Mingo Fishtrap. Additionally, the event will feature a battle of the bands (contestants to be announced) and a kid talent show sponsored by the insidious organization plotting world domination known as Radio Disney. The 10K and 5K runs will draw the fitness freaks, while the food and drinks will help the rest of us fall further out of shape, and the beauty products pavilion will help us all look better regardless.

Since Mayfest goes on for four days, you won’t have to miss the other events, like the Cinco de Mayo festival at Rose Marine Theater. Their celebration of Mexico’s independence includes music by Mariachi El Sol de Tejas and dance by Ballet Folklórico de Fort Worth. If you’re farther north, or your tastes are more Cajun than Mexican, you can also check out the Denton Charity Mud Bug Boil and Gumbo Cook-Off, which benefits various local charities and features its own lineup of live music acts. All these things will make it nice to venture out of the house.

Check Calendar listings for dates, times, and admission prices. Check Music listings for the bands that will be playing these venues.
