No Room at the Party
To the editor: I have a news flash for Danny Boy and Mr. Hearsay (Hearsay, April 13, 2005). It is not shocking or surprising to local artists that none of us was invited to the Main Street Party. I have lived in Fort Worth since 1998, and I have been trying to crash the Party every year since. I have not seen any blacks represented, either. There are cities that set aside space for local artists. Fort Worth just has not progressed to the point of accepting and recognizing the many talented artists that reside in this city. Even if Main Street did set aside space, it should not be off the street in some parking lot. That would be patronizing at its worse. There is hope and an up-and-coming alternative for us local artists. It is called Jazz by the Boulevard. That works for me, and I am going to save my application fee for an event that does not patronize or exclude. This is not the first time that I have responded to “The Main Street Arts Festival” in your paper. Thanks for letting me speak on this sensitive subject again.
Robert L. Berry, Jr., Fort Worth
