For Your Inner Space

Last week Spiral Diner grandly reopened in its airy new quarters, 1314 W. Magnolia Av. at 6th Av., and Chow, Baby joined a diverse crowd — young and old, dreadlocked and military cut, cargo-pantsed and church-clothed — for placebo sausage ($2.50) and amazingly delicious no-egg, no-milk, all-you-can-eat pancakes (Sundays, $5.25). The wicked-cool décor answers the question of who’s been outbidding Chow_Baby123 on all those retro atomic Eames-era furnishings on eBay of late, with boomerang-stenciled Formica tables and space-age lamps swagging from the silver-painted tin ceiling. It’s really fab, and the expanded all-vegan menu, extended hours — until midnight on weekends — and organic coffee/espresso/juice bar should help turn this corner into a new Southside hangout that everybody, even the bandana-free, can enjoy.
