Off Limits in the Ether

For the last three years, a web site devoted to accused serial pedophile Wirt Norris has served as a meeting place in cyberspace for his accusers and their friends and families. As of last week, however, www.wirtnorris.com’s operator said he would delete any new postings from any of the men who say they were molested by the former Olympic diving coach as well as anything from their families. Site operator Tim Kaastad — the brother of one of Norris’ earliest accusers, Rolf Kaastad — wants to thwart any efforts by defense attorneys to show that Norris’ accusers compared notes or colluded with stories of predation spanning five decades.
Prosecutors are apparently worried about the same thing. Witnesses in the case have been warned to stay off the site altogether and to quit talking to the media — which is more than a bit odd. Seems like Static remembers that it was a tip to the web site that Kaastad shared with prosecutors that resulted in one of the two indictments Norris is facing. And best Static can figure, many of the 20 now accusing Norris of molestation came forward only after hearing news accounts of abuse from Rolf and a fellow accuser Will Hallman.
