A Reactionary’s Prayer

To the editor: A Prayer for the Lost.
I am but a student. I look for guidance from the people that teach me. My parents, my priest, my teachers, my boss, and my president all have something to teach me, and I have something to learn.
I am but a servant. I serve others in any way I can. I clean for my parents, I babysit my niece, and I rub my girlfriend’s feet.
I am but a dreamer. I have visions of people sitting in the sun, strumming guitars and singing songs. When I walk on campus I see just that.
I am but an apologist. I would say I am sorry to the millions who have died, because I would not take action. Many have died under the worst situations, and I would not help. I needed convincing. I am sorry to those who died on 9/11. I did not take the threats seriously. I am sorry to the millions who died under Saddam Hussein, I did not take your deaths seriously. I am sorry to the millions of South Vietnamese who died when my country left you to fend for yourselves. I did not take the horrors of Communism seriously.
I am but a follower. When English and philosophy teachers told me things, I believed all that was told to me. A person that someone else paid to teach me must know a great deal.
I am but a reactionary. I don’t listen to the Dixie Chicks or pay money for anything that has Whoopi, Alec, or Tim in it. Some people must learn that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.
I am but a student. Thank God I was not in Kendall McCook’s English class.
