Midwest Music Summit
Speaking of festivals, one of the biggest non-mainstream industry events is taking applications from bands for its 2005 edition. From July 21 to 23, in scary — er, I mean — scenic Indianapolis, Ind., the Midwest Music Summit will bring in more than 300 bands from all over the world and across nearly all genres and “success levels” to perform. Since its inaugural show five years ago, MMS has been host to performances by Cat Power, Juliana Hatfield, Burning Brides, KRS-One, and hundreds of other medium-range artists. Similar to that other music festival-slash-event — the one in Austin — MMS also provides an opportunity for burgeoning superstars to interact with one another and extant superstars via myriad seminars and, yes, parties and after-parties. Past seminar participants have included execs from XM Radio, E! Entertainment Television, ASCAP, WOXY Radio, Fanatic Promotion, and Vice, and folks from labels as various and diverse as Sony, Bloodshot, Kill Rock Stars, Geffen, and American. Bands interested in submitting an application are encouraged to go to www.midwestmusicsummit.com. Deadline is May 13.
