What’s going on in Granbury this weekend? Try everything. The Langdon Cultural & Educational Center is putting itself out for its four-day Langdon Weekend, and there’ll be plenty of events for people of all interests.
To start with, three local poets (Rebecca Balcarcel, Carol Coffee Reposa, and Larry D. Thomas) will be giving readings of their work on Wednesday. Afterwards, the Fort Worth troupe Pantagleize Theatre Company will perform a staged reading of excerpts from The Fourposter, the comedy by Jan de Hartog that they were supposed to put on here back in April. (Financial and logistical issues have frustrated this troupe’s attempts to actually get a production on the boards. We’ll let you know when they have a breakthrough.)
Thursday features a book party for Tarleton State University’s publication Langdon Review of the Arts in Texas, plus a performance by Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth, as they warm up for their season-inaugurating performance here later in the week. Friday’s spotlight event is a screening of Shane Carruth’s low-budget sci-fi thriller from last year Primer. The filmmaker/star will be on hand to comment on the film. The weekend winds up with a speech from Texas’ favorite gubernatorial candidate, Kinky Friedman. It all looks to be well worth the $50 registration fee and the drive to our southwest.
