Local Round-Up
Hands down, one of the best heavy heavy metal bands in North Texas, Fort Worth’s Necrogazm is about to release a new c.d., The Order Within Chaos, and, based on a few advance listens, it’s just peachy. The band is playing Sun., with Trivium, A Dozen Furies, In Theory, and The Destro, at Ridglea Theater, 6025 Camp Bowie Blvd., in Fort Worth (817-738-9500). The official c.d. release party locally will be at the Ridglea in mid-February, when the band will also announce its new name. The change, according to a recent web posting by frontman Danny Reid, is necessary. “Necrogazm has progressed a lot over the years since it began in 1998. We’ve gone through four member changes in the eight years of the band’s existence. ... We feel like we have outgrown the name. It was made up eight years ago, and this is a completely different band than it was when it began. We also feel it doesn’t fit the style of music that we play anymore.” Visit www.necrogazm.com. ... Hands down, one of the best modern rock bands in North Texas — if not the best — Fort Worth’s Black Tie Dynasty has posted a song from its forthcoming full-length at www.myspace.com/blacktiedynastycom. “Lakes” is symphonic and epic in a goth-’80s, New Wave-y, Ultravox-y way (Black Tie frontman Cory Watson sounds a little like young Midge Ure), and it’s catchy and effervescent as fuck — buoyant, echoing guitars bounce and twinkle over uptempo snap and a groovy, nigh-danceable bass line. Pray to the gods of black mascara, sparkly nail polish, and torn yearbook photos that you hear it live on Sat. when Black Tie and The Burning Hotels help inaugurate a new Fort Worth venue-slash-night club, Jack’s Off the Wall (né Pedro’s Trailer Park), 2731 White Settlement Blvd. (817-850-9955). Black Tie’s full-length, Movements, will be released in April on Dallas-based Idol Records, home of [daryl], Flickerstick, and The Fags. ... Legendary guitarist and favorite son Dave Millsap is back in the studio, recording the follow-up to 2005’s Feeling Lucky. Back in the day, Millsap was the touring guitarist for fellow Fort Worthian Delbert McClinton and has played with Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, Fort Worth’s Robert Ealey, Kim Wilson, and Boz Scaggs. Catch Millsap on Sat. in the less-pressure-filled environment of Cachonga’s, 4255 Camp Bowie Blvd., in Fort Worth (817-731-9104). ... Another local fave headed into the studio is Chatterton. The indie-rockers will lay down some tracks (as the cool kids say) in Farmer’s Branch at Artisan Recording Studio, where just about any band or performer, near or far, that you can think of has recorded. Collin Herring? Check. Willie Nelson? Yep. Coma Rally? Uh-huh. Vanilla Ice? Hells yeah! Visit www.myspace.com/chatterton. ... Big shout-out to Green River Ordinance. The alt-rockers generated enough popular votes to win a contest to open for Bon Jovi last week at the American Airlines Center in Big D. GRO, according to one fan, “rocked the house.” Sure, but did they go out in a “Blaze of Glory”? (Har, har.)
