Revivals of Spartacus and Eight for Adler, two of Metropolitan Classical Ballet’s most popular productions, will highlight the company’s season- opening program next Mon., Oct. 27.
Of special interest is the casting of Shea Johnson as Spartacus, the slave who led his Roman overlords on a merry chase in the days of epic empire. Johnson made a striking impression in the Diana and Acteon pas de deux with the company last June. Co-artistic director Alexander Vetrov has staged the condensed version of the Bolshoi evening-length classic with Olga Pavlova and Marina Goshko in principal female roles and Andre Prikhodko as the Roman leader Crassus.
Completing the evening will be co-artistic director Paul Mejia’s Eight for Adler, a setting of memorable Broadway songs by Richard Adler from Damn Yankees and The Pajama Game, two popular shows of the 1950s. The latter was revived in New York in 2006 and received a Tony Award as Best Musical Revival. Adler will be in attendance for the Fort Worth performance. Pavlova will be featured dancer in a medley that includes “You Gotta Have Heart,” Rags to Riches,” and “Hey, There.”
