To the editor: Wow! When I started reading “The Fading Light of Freedom” by Kendall McCook (Jan. 19, 2005), I thought it was a put on and was enjoying the laughs and admiring how clever the writer seemed to be. Then to my dismay I realized the poor misguided fellow was serious. I am so sorry for this guy. He is doomed to be one of those folks who go through life as a total outsider. He is stuck in the ’70s and should maybe go to San Francisco to find like-minded friends. I pray he is not the lonely, bitter person his column portrays.

To the editor: I was astonished to read that Tarrant County College fired Kendall McCook because he was teaching his students to debate and think for themselves, instead of blindly accepting the propaganda that passes for “fair and balanced” reporting.
TCC students should save their money and just take correspondence courses. Then when George W. Bush states that he is a good Christian who believes in spreading liberty and freedom throughout the world, they won’t ask whether he also believes in imperialism, pre-emptive war, and elitism. They won’t wonder how a good Christian could ignore poverty, genocide, and torture or allow assault weapons back on the streets. They won’t find it ironic that the opposition to gay marriage and the color-coded terrorism alerts both ended Nov 2. They won’t question why the President ignored 9/11 warnings, broke international law, or weakened EPA and Federal Drug Administration safeguards.
Instead of educating their students, TCC now exemplifies the old adage “Ignorance is bliss.”
