On the Hook
When Fort Worth Weekly talked to people last year about the child molestation charges against John Stewart DeLong of Bedford (“Children of the Damned,” July 23, 2003), one neighbor hoped aloud that money wouldn’t get him off the hook. Well, as of last week, the hook still seems firmly in place. The former American Airlines pilot was found guilty on Aug. 20 of three counts of indecency with a child and one of aggravated sexual assault, and was acquitted on several other counts. Girls as young as seven years old — the children of friends and neighbors — told police that DeLong lured them to his house with backyard pool parties. It could be a long time until his next party: The jury sentenced him to 60 years in prison.
