The Show

By staging myriad tsunami relief fund-raisers over the past couple of months, the Fort Worth music scene has pretty much proved that when it comes to compassion, the country’s other metropolises — and other scenes — got nuthin’ on us. The big question: Why stop there?
This weekend sees what will probably amount to the last of Cowtown’s music-oriented fund-raisers, at the Wreck Room. Love of fellow man aside, the best reason to show out is that the music will be hella good. Yeah, you may have seen all of these bands over the past year or so, but if you haven’t seen ’em recently, you’re missing out; their sets are lousy with heretofore unheard gems. Be sure to catch Goodwin, getting ready to release the follow-up to their unparalleled debut of about a year ago; Pablo & the Hemphill 7, also in the midst of recording new material; Chatterton, Kevin Aldridge’s project whose oeuvre — like the universe — expands exponentially each day; and, hell, everyone else — from Destination Venus to Woodeye to Darth Vato.
While the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, leaders of the worldwide relief effort, recently announced that the cost of the entire Red Cross tsunami aid program has been met, people who still wish to donate are encouraged to go to the USA Freedom Corps web site, www.usafreedomcorps.com, to view a list of agencies still raising funds. — Anthony Mariani

With Pablo & the Hemphill 7, Goodwin, Blood of the Sun, Eden Automatic, Destination Venus, Woodeye, Darth Vato, Horses, Chatterton, Oliver Future, Velvet Love Box, Alan, The Sultans, Michael Earhardt, and Scott Hall, Fri-Sun, at the Wreck Room, 3208 W 7th St, FW. $8. 817-348-8303.
