Ex-Dive of the Week

With summer a slow period for new restaurant openings, Chow, Baby has been filling its time and tummy revisiting old acquaintances, mostly to find that they’ve aged badly. Not the case with Arlington’s Al Hamra (701 E. Pioneer Pkwy at Collins); in fact, quite the opposite.

Apparently it had been at least three years since Chow, Baby visited this Middle Eastern eatery adjoining the Halal Import Food Market, because that’s how long ago Jamila Qaddura bought the operation, beautifully redecorated the room, and spiced up the buffet offerings ($7.99). Appetizers, like hummus and roasted eggplant, are fresh-made and delicious. Entrées change daily, but usually include roasted or simmered lamb, beef, chicken, and vegetarian dishes. Luckily, every day is baklava day. It sure won’t be thre years before Chow, Baby visits again.
