EdgeFest XI, featuring Nickelback

By Adam Woodyard

Like, wow, kids, we’d like to thank you all for your call-ups and write-ins about hot new artist Nickelback, whose hot new rock sound is taking the country by storm!

Yeah, well, in your dreams. “Flavor of the Month” fans either need to quit watching MTV or do some serious soul-searching. Nickelback brings nothing to the musical table that we haven’t heard already from the mouths of last month’s Hot Things. Same old set of whiney lyrics, dull-as-dirt power chords that lie there like lead singer Chad Kroeger’s mullet, and a follow-up album that none of you will ever notice. Same formula, same momentary fascination, same result. You’d think we’d be on to them by now.

If you’ve been snapping your fingers to this band over the past few weeks, nothing is going to stop you from going to their set at EdgeFest XI. But if you’re one of many music fans on the fence about it — and this is critical — you might consider checking out ex-Alice in Chains songwriter Jerry Cantrell, who’s also on the bill, or just hanging out by the beer tent and getting hammered. It’s a push.

EdgeFest XI, featuring Nickelback, Default, Alien Ant Farm, Jerry Cantrell, and others. Sat, Smirnoff Music Centre, 1818 1st Av, Dallas. 214-421-1111.
