To the editor: Anthony Mariani’s article about housing design covered the subject at length (“McHood” June 30, 2004), a worthy effort. But in one respect the Fort Worth Star-Telegram did one better than Anthony. The Star-Telegram was explicit in saying that the prime purpose of city housing design standards is to get more property tax dollars from the city’s residents. Greed wins over compassion and fellow-feeling. Brainstorming for solutions could be a topic for the next article.
