The Show

Two of the Weekly’s favorite local movers-and-shakers, Spune Productions and “The Good Show” (9pm-midnight Sundays, KTCU/88.1-FM), have joined to begin sponsoring a weekly show at, incidentally, one of our favorite new local watering holes, the Black Dog Tavern.
(Sarcastic transmission: commencing.) So what better way to inaugurate “The Good Dog” series than with performances by two Dallas-based bands, Eaton Lake Tonics and Sunday Drive. Lord knows, there aren’t any decent indie-rock groups in the 817! As we penniless, shoeless, and generally toothless Fort Worth music scenesters huddle together on our shantytown rooftops to escape the rising floodwaters of mediocrity that continually threaten to submerge us, you Dallasites are the glorious, sleek, expensive-looking helicopters that occasionally descend from your lofty altitudes out of pure pity to extend red-white-and-blue child’s jump ropes to our dirty, stubby, greedy, desperate, envious hands. For you, Dallas, we are eternally grateful. (End of sarcastic transmission.)
What cannot be denied is that both ETL and Sunday Drive play the Fort often enough to qualify as honorary scenesters and are both pretty gosh-dern good (as we backward-ass nobs like to say, rattling our rolled-up high school equivalency certificates and cursing “Progress”). Both bands also make for a study in contrasts. ETL’s wonderfully tattered, rinky-dink experimental music hunts for and often slakes its unremitting thirst for genius at the heretofore mythical oasis where humor and musicianship actually live in harmony. As for the Sunday Drive boys, they’re just smooooove with the “V-E.” They do an indie-inflected version of the Little River Band’s “Reminiscing” that would make Burt Bacharach belch in his Belvedere gin (uh, whatever that means).
ETL will be performing earlier in the evening at the Wreck Room. Such kind-hearted humanitarians, those Dallas boys.
