Tears and Fears
To the editor: I really appreciated your article revealing the hidden truths behind gas well drilling (“Hot Water,” Nov. 28, 2007). It literally brought tears to my eyes as I realized the impact this could have on our city. I fear these gas companies are going to take their money and run, leaving the citizens of Fort Worth with chump change from leases and a catastrophic environmental mess.
Is there any way to give this story more coverage? I am passing the article on to everyone I can, but I feel that many others need to know what is going on.
KERA/Channel 13-TV aired a documentary last week on Picher, Okla. It was frightening to see the price citizens there had to pay for a momentary boom in their economy. I wonder ... 20 years from now, when all the drilling is over and the money gone, will our city regret these decisions and find itself with an irreversible problem?
