Free-thinker that it is, Night & Day believes that kids should read, but that reading isn’t so important that kids should be locked in the house and chained to copies of See Spot Run. A good tv show beats a bad book any day.

That notwithstanding, Libraryfest still looks like it might be an enjoyable place to take the kids this Sunday. The Fort Worth Central Library will be host to lots of family-friendly activities, including live music performances from Trout Fishing in America, Eddie Coker, and American Idol’s Celena Rea, plus storytelling, crafts, food, and an appearance by auto racing legend Johnny Rutherford.

If Fort Worth is too far away, or if you’re more interested in buying books than borrowing them, you’re better off with the book sale at Arlington’s Public Library. The institution’s periodic housecleaning means that all manner of reading material (not to mention recordings and sheet music) will be available to the public. Either of these events will give you and your kids a chance to glean the education that books can best provide.

Arlington Public Library book sale: Wed-Sun at 101 E Abram St, Arlington. Admission is free. Call 817-274-8831. Libraryfest: Noon-7pm Sun at Fort Worth Central Library, 500 W 3rd St, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-871-8022.
