Greenpeace Picks a Fight
Speaking of asthmatic analogies, Static’s red, itchy eyes perked up when a press release from Greenpeace arrived. The activists who never met a tree they didn’t want to French kiss are upset at Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark, the world’s largest tissue product manufacturer (ever heard of Kleenex?) for using too little recycled material in its products. Greenpeace accuses the company of cutting down ancient woods, such as Canada’s boreal forest, and relying on freshly cut trees instead of post-consumer recycled fiber to make disposable paper products. Even the most allergy-prone among us can probably agree it’s a shame to chop down perfectly good forests to make a product that we use to corral sneezes. Greenpeace is holding a series of events on April 28 in the Dallas area to let Kimberly-Clark know that just because the company has a pretty girl’s first name, doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a poke in the kisser, symbolically speaking.
