The Aardvark

The last time Stephen Holt was in one of the best bands in Dallas, it was during the early 1990s, and the Dallas music scene was nothing like it is today; big-label record execs avoided Dallas as if it were the home of something rotten. And even if a Dallas band managed to get signed, like Holt’s band Tablet, it more than likely didn’t get far.
Flash forward about 10 years, and the Big D music scene is very different. People in the music industry are now flocking to Dallas and its abundance of musical talent, thanks in part to the work of two Pauls — Paul Nugent of Rainmaker and Brando Records, and Paul Bassman, best known for turning Flickerstick, Drowning Pool, and Seven Channels into household names.
Luckily for them, Holt is once again in one of Big D’s best bands, OH-no. The group’s refreshingly crisp mix of Midwestern rock and the avant garde has record label execs across the land salivating. Their inventive sound has already caught the attention of near-legendary Dave Matthews producer John Alagia. To top it all off, Holt’s always-engaging and entertaining personality and the band’s well-rehearsed sound make OH-no one of the best live acts around.
While OH-no may be well on its way to stardom, a band called the 11:30’s are in the beginning stage of what may be a long, bountiful music career. These TCU kids seemingly have been around for only a few days but are already starting to make waves in the local music scene. OK, maybe the waves are just ripples at this point, but the 11:30’s’ interpretive rather than imitative take on Radiohead sets them on the right path. Hopefully, they won’t let schoolwork get in the way.
