Stopping the Buck
Retired Army general Nathan Vail has a new ally in his campaign to launch anti-incompetency missiles at Fort Worth school superintendent Thomas Tocco: a local conservative Hispanic group. The Tarrant County chapter of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly has joined Vail in calling for Tocco’s resignation, citing the ongoing FBI investigation into the handling of construction contracts and charging the superintendent with “gross negligence and mismanagement.”
The group’s leadership voted to support the Vail-led petition drive to remove Tocco after hearing the crusty old general’s speech at its March general meeting. Said the assembly’s local chairman, Carlos Puente, “There are major concerns [with the district]; the audit reports are not good. The buck stops with the superintendent and ultimate responsibility resides there.”
Since that meeting, members of the group have been circulating the petition to other organizations. “We are calling on the public to express its disgust with the fiscal mismanagement of these public funds,” said assembly vice-chairman Ruben Jimenez Jr. “The school children and taxpayers deserve relief from this dilemma and we believe improvement will only begin with the resignation of Thomas Tocco.”
Kelly, We Hardly Knew Ya
Last year’s American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, came across as the small-town girl that she is — a cute little Burleson gal with a big voice and girl-next-door demeanor that was refreshing in the wake of Britney, Christina, Shakira, and the rest of today’s pubescent pop divas who slink around like tarts in training. Static appreciates a trampy tart as much as the next person, but it was nice to see Kelly break from the mold.
Then she went to Californica to make a movie and a c.d., and apparently succumbed to an image makeover by demonic El-Lay advisors. Kelly won’t be doing lap dances for Kid Rock at a Sunset Boulevard club anytime soon, but she has obviously added some sultry yin to her angelic yang. To promote her new c.d., Thankful, Kelly has been making a slew of television appearances, including a return to Idol a couple of weeks ago to perform her new single, “Miss Independent.” Her sexed-up attitude and scowling, pouty posing seemed like she was trying to channel that vixen J-Lo.
A beer-fueled Static yelled at the tv — “Honey, don’t go Hollywood on us. Stay your sweet self, or I’ll spank your bottom.” Oh, wait a minute. Idol ended an hour ago and Static’s yelling at Larry King.
