The Price Thereof

To the editor: As much as I appreciated the free advertising in “Last Call” and as amusing as I found your recent rants on our policy of charging twice as much for twice the alcohol, I’d like to make a couple of points. First, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission’s rule 45.103 (c) (2) states “... retail licensees and permittees may not increase the volume of alcohol contained in a drink without increasing proportionally the price thereof.” Frankly, I don’t see a lot of room for subjective interpretation.

Second, though it’s true that neither Dirk Nowitzki nor any Playboy centerfolds (that I know of ) have ever visited Café Aspen, I take exception to your characterization of our clientele as “milquetoast Camp Bowie golfers.” Some of the leading citizens of our fair city regularly elect to relax over food and beverage at Café Aspen. And they do so not because they can hammer double drinks at reduced prices, but because we’ve been providing a quality environment and a high level of food and service for more than 15 years.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
