No Axis ... Yet

The sizable hurdle in front of Axis — that of getting people to go alllllll the way to South Main where the club’s located (it’s really not that far) — was evident last weekend, when co-owners Jerrett Joslin and Brian Forella threw an open house party, replete with performances by some of town’s best rockers and free beer!!!, and still saw their nifty interior real estate go largely unoccupied. (At one point, between sets, Collin Herring lay on his back in the middle of the floor and did “snow angels.”) HearSay’s two cents: It’s gonna take some time for that part of the city to begin popping up regularly on yokels’ radars, no matter how sweet your club is. As for the party, Kevin Aldridge (see: this week’s “Music” feature, next door) never sounded better, and John Price delivered some new material that, while similar in spirit to his recorded stuff, boasts a newfound melancholy.
