On Friday, Texas Dance Theatre introduces itself to Fort Worth with a Gala Kickoff Opening at Scott Theatre at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. The performance includes Three Minutes With Reality, set to the music of Astor Piazzolla and Yo-Yo Ma and choreographed by Wil McKnight, TDT artistic director; the world premiere of Confugium, a piece set to the music of Vivaldi and choreographed by company member and ballet mistress Emily Hunter; Trinchera, choreographed by member Hollis Hock and set to the music of Edgar Meyer and Tin Hat Trio; and the world premiere of Fast, choreographed by McKnight, set to the music of Steve Reich, and featuring set design by artist Daniel Corona, who specializes in acrylic on glass.
McKnight has performed professionally with Colorado Ballet, New York City’s Ballet for Young Audiences, Ballet Long Island, and the former Ballet Dallas. A Fort Worth resident, he started the company several months ago. Unlike Texas Ballet Theater and Metropolitan Classical Ballet, Texas Dance Theatre will perform contemporary dance. Unlike Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth, the new troupe will perform classical pieces, though don’t expect big-budget showstoppers of the kind regularly trotted out by TBT and MCB. After the show, gala attendees will have the chance to meet the dancers.
Texas Dance Theatre’s Gala Kickoff Opening is at 8pm Fri at the Scott Theatre, 1300 Gendy St, FW. Tickets are $15-100. Call 817.676.1514 or 832.693.2589 or visit www.texasdancetheatre.com.
