All-Mahler

The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents a four-day, four-concert all-Gustav Mahler series this week featuring three of the composer’s outsized symphonies.
FWSO Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya championed the Austrian composer through similar programs while music director of the Auckland Symphony in New Zealand and the Eugene Symphony in Oregon. The Bass Performance Hall concerts kick off the first of the planned surveys by Harth-Bedoya of Mahler’s nine symphonies. The other two will take place in future festivals.
Thursday’s opening program is billed as a multimedia introduction to Mahler and his music and will showcase excerpts sung by mezzo-soprano Jill Grove. On Friday, Symphony No. 1, The Titan, will be performed, and Saturday will see a performance of the maestro’s last completed symphony, No. 9. The Sunday concert will feature Symphony No. 5.
