The Show

On its birthday every year, “The Good Show” radio program holds a relatively generic music celebration that both fetes the North Texas scene and raises funds for a worthwhile cause. The concert also serves as a gentle, noisy reminder to tune in to KTCU/88.7-FM every Sunday from 9 p.m. ’til midnight for the on-air shenanigans of host Tom Urquhart with co-hosts Chris Bellomy and Goodwin frontman Tony Diaz. If you like your radio as raw as your steak, you’ll dig TGS.

Now five years old, The Good Show remains trés low-fi. There’s a lot of dead air, a lot of voices talking over one another, and a lot of cool music you can’t hear anywhere else on the local dial, especially mucho North Texas/Fort Worth-local bands. A handful of them will play the concert, including Goodwin, Chatterton, Eaton Lake Tonics, The Dirt Blazers (formerly the Americanos), DJ Smiley, and the Man Factory. This year’s beneficiary is the Therapy House, a nonprofit organization that helps the families of autistic children cope with the disease. A “good” show, indeed. —
