Green River Ordinance

A couple of years ago, Green River Ordinance was an up-and-coming band that seemed poised for the Big Time — they regularly opened for Flickerstick and got a lot of good press (chiefly from the publication in your hands). Then all of the sudden, GRO kind of disappeared. There was even a rumor going around that they had broken up.
Well, not only was GRO not breaking up, they were getting better. The proof is in The Beauty of Letting Go, the full-length album they’ve been working on since partially removing themselves from the scene and the disc that should establish them as heirs to the throne of Flickerstick/Burden Brothers/The Mermaid Purse. The c.d.’s a raucous blend of power-pop that, while changing often in tempo and timbre, never sounds anything less than pristine, dynamic, ready for radio, smart, and uniquely Green River Ordinance. Unlike other alt-rockers, GRO laces nearly every tune with uplifting, spiritual, positivist vibes. You gotta tip your hat to a youthful, edgy band whose youthful, edgy music is not singularly concerned with the shittier aspects of interpersonal relationships and being young and healthy in one of the greatest countries in the world.
The band members — Josh Wilkerson and Jamey Ice (guitars), Jamey’s brother Geoff Ice (bass), Denton Hunker (drums), and Josh Jenkins (guitar and vocals) — are all fresh-faced and skinny-limbed. Here’s hoping that the bitterness that accompanies aging doesn’t get to these young turks, some of whom aren’t even old enough to drown their sorrow in a proper alcoholic beverage.
