Ales of March
Everyone talks about how there’s nothing to do and only the same clubs to haunt. Well, put this in your pipe and smoke it.
Re-opening in March will be the Boom Room, one of Last Call’s favorite TCU-area joints — for its anti-college-ness, great juke, and lesbian bartending duo of Tiffany and Andi. Instead of slinging drinks, T-’n’-A will be running the show as co-owners. The hang-out’s probable new name: Tiff & Andi’s Place.
“We want the bar to have the same laid-back coolness of the Boom but cleaner,” Tiffany said. “We’ll have some lounge-like couches and fresh paint. It’ll be like a late-night coffee shop with lots of liquor and a kick in the ass.”
Another fave watering hole that’ll be undergoing some change this March is the Torch. Owner Brian Forella has leased space formerly home to Tequila’s, right down the block, and will be relocating Torch-errific activities there.
“We’re still waiting on a liquor license, which takes like six to eight weeks,” Forella said. “As soon as that switches over, all we have to do is move the furniture.”
The Torch shares a roof with the Wreck Room, another Forella nightclub. Once the Torch furniture is moved, the Wreck will expand into the next-door vacancy. Forella plans on having acoustic shows and — possibly, possibly — local music karaoke there. “We’re gonna blast out the wall in the front and do kind of like a Moon-Aardvark thing with stage and seating.”
Also expected to be re-done by March is 7th Haven, a West Seventh Street bar/nightclub that as many of you probably already know partially burned last Tuesday. The fire department, according to 7th Haven owner Jimmy Moore, said the cause of the blaze was electrical.
“The building needs to be cleaned up and re-painted, but there’s really not any rebuilding that has to happen,” Moore said. “It’s going to take a while because we’re having to replace some of the ceiling and the roof. We had to pull everything out of the bar.”
Regulars don’t fret. While the Star-Telegram reported an estimated $50,000 in damages, the Haven wasn’t hit nearly that hard. Moore is confident he’ll be able to re-open by March 1.
