Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards
By Anthony Mariani
The Weekly’s eighth or ninth annual Music Awards showcase is Sunday, at the Ridglea Theater, featuring performances by the Old 97’s, Collin Herring, Pablo and the Hemphill 7, A-Hummin’ Acoustical Acupuncture, Goodwin, Tim Locke, John LaMonica, April Geesbreght, and a band whose name we can’t divulge but whose music you know — very well. (They win nearly every category they’re nominated for every year.) Ballots and ballot boxes will be all over the venue; if you’re there and still so paralyzed by indolence that you can’t vote, well, you might as well limp over to your favorite local musician and dribble spittle on his Converse sneakers.
In between performances, our second class of inductees into the Fort Worth Music Hall of Fame — “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, Doug Ferguson, Flickerstick, Lady Pearl Johnson, and the Old 97’s — will be honored one by one. Yes, we know the day of the event happens to coincide with a celebration of all things paternal, but still ... Papa would be proud to know that his favorite local musicians are loved. Heck, bring the old fart along. — Anthony Mariani
Sun at the Ridglea Theater, 6028 Camp Bowie Blvd, FW. $10. www.frontgatetickets.com.
