It’s no big secret that every Sunday night from 7 to10 pm, for years now, KPRR-FM/102.1 “The Edge” has put a young man named Josh on the air and allowed him to play some music slightly different from the same ol’ same ol’, in a show called “The Adventure Club.” New stuff, B-sides, local acts — you get it all there. And considering the boy is still on the air, he must be doing something right.

In fact, Josh is so grateful to you, the constant listener, that he’s decided to throw an 8-year anniversary party next week. Bands, handpicked by Josh, will play the gig, and surprise guests will make appearances.

It’s kinda saying something that in this, the day of corporate interests, a radio show like “The Adventure Club” can not only land quality airtime but keep it. Clear Channel, parent company of “The Edge,” doesn’t ordinarily take kindly to local music (read: music that doesn’t move a couple hundred thousand copies per year). So we can forgive Josh his recent all-Oasis show because he drops in the occasional Lucy Loves Schroeder song or pAper chAse number now and then.

Lucy Loves Schroeder, in fact, is one of the bands playing this weekend. So look at it this way: You get to see bands like LLS, Ash, and Macavity; Josh gets to prove to his bosses at Clear(-Cut) Channel just how invaluable his services are. And they are.

Ash, Little Grizzly, Lucy Loves Schroeder, Macavity, and more Sat at Trees, 2709 Elm St, Dallas. $10.21. 214-748-5009.
