Charge for Crème
The New Orleans Parish district attorney’s office did what it said it would do this week and threw the book at an executive of Ross Perot Jr.’s Hillwood Properties who allegedly shoved an elderly N’awlins man to the ground, putting him in a coma for several weeks.
Some people were beginning to wonder. After all, more than five months had passed since New Orleans police arrested Hillwood exec Tony Crème, 28, in connection with an assault on retired radiologist and prominent arts patron Russell Albright, who was reportedly shoved to the ground Jan. 2 outside Galatoire’s Restaurant on Bourbon Street. Witnesses said the altercation began after Albright, 71, tossed a mint onto a table where Crème was sitting. For those who haven’t spent a weekend in a whiskey-soaked stupor in the French Quarter (anybody?), tossing mints, doubloons, and cheap trinkets is a pleasant tradition, not a declaration of war. The second-degree battery charge against Crème carries a maximum sentence, on conviction, of five years in prison, but the prosecutor said he plans to pursue an additional three years because the victim was over 65. “Dr. Albright suffered a fractured skull and was hospitalized for several weeks,” a statement from D.A. Eddie Jordan Jr. said. “Dr. Albright never fully recovered and suffered permanent brain damage. [He] is expected to require assisted living for the rest of his life.” You might see this same info in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram ... but so far, the daily paper of record has completely ignored the story, even though the largest project of Perot Jr.’s Hillwood empire is Fort Worth-based AllianceTexas.
