Seems only natural that after concentrating on quietude, singer-songwriter John LaMonica would wanna rock out. After about a year of wonderful lo-fi and somber solo acoustic work, LaMonica has put together a new version of his second band, Tiebreaker. The quintet, according to folks in the know, will also contain aspects of his first group, My Spacecoaster. The marriage stands to result in an outfit that wears its heart on its sleeve (like Tiebreaker) but keeps its fist in your gut (like My Spacecoaster).

The first time we experienced Tiebreaker was a couple of years ago at the beloved and now defunct 7th Haven, where LaMonica and crew played an almost-weekly gig. Straddling the line between group and solo performance, the electrified outings were consistently one of the more rewarding fixtures in town. Some shows would go on for hours without managing to lose any appeal. Part of the reason is frontman LaMonica’s charisma — the 25-year-old has the ability to reach out to listeners by drawing inward. Backed by the nouveau Tiebreaker’s bombast, his unique talent may make for a wholly new North Texas rock event. — Anthony Mariani

Sat with Henry Holt and The Color of May at the Wreck Room, 3208 W 7th St, FW. 817-348-8303.
