Slow Roosevelt

Cautionary tales for ambitious local bands seeking to bust into the big time abound. The Toadies, Tripping Daisy, Spot, Radish ... take your pick.
Like fugitives from the law of averages, Slow Roosevelt is that rare thing: a Dallas band signed to a major label (in this case, Sony ... in Europe, anyway) that hasn’t yet been used up and cast aside by corporate dweebs — possibly because this band hasn’t yet garnered the one hit required to go down as one-hit wonders. But their new c.d., Weightless, and the “buzz track,” “Boys Like Girls Steal,” could change all of that.
With a busy tour schedule that will carry it as far away as Tulsa and Jackson, Miss., and radio support from the likes of The Edge, hard-working Slo Ro is definitely a regional contender (and not in the Marlon-Brando-On-the-Waterfront-”I coulda been a ...” sense, either, although their album was released here on Brando Records). Of course, having a babe magnet frontguy like Pete Thomas doesn’t hurt (the phrase that pays: “The girls bring the guys”), but neither does having jams that kick as hard as “Laughing Comes Crying” or “Comfort From a Bomb.”
