A New Hope

To the editor: Once again, Fort Worth Weekly and Betty Brink have done the Fort Worth taxpayer and community a huge favor by being the only news outlet in the city that will make any attempt at holding our elected officials accountable for the insane development deals they seem to hand out with impunity (“Still Tilting Over TIFs,” March 23, 2005). The story points out just how difficult it is to hold anyone in our city accountable for violations of state law and even our own city charter. However, it is getting easier as we learn more. We are finding that the Tarrant County District Attorney (according to the Texas attorney general) is the organization that ordinary citizens are supposed to look to whenever our city misbehaves or violates the law. The problem in Tarrant County, though, is that we have a DA who sits on his ass while the good-old-boy network does whatever it wants. Message to the DA: Don’t plan on running again — we’re planning on change.
Each time a news source prints another article, it helps us just a little more, so I just wanted to say thanks for your efforts. Your newspaper helps more than you know.
